Training: Fire fighter SCBA donning: How to improve your "mask up" times
This video will describe and demonstrate various steps and techniques that can be used to improve your "mask up" times. It is NOT intended for fire fighters who practice coming off the rig already masked up or who only have to connect their regulator to "Go on Air". Coming off the rig with your facepiece on or breathing air can have both advantages and disadvantages. When you still have to don your mask, hood, helmet and gloves, the techniques in this video (if you choose to follow them) will guarantee you faster times. Ideally the majority of the steps for donning your SCBA should be completed enroute. The less moves that still need to be accomplished and the faster and more efficiently they can be done, the quicker a fire fighter can make entry and the more LIVES and property that can be saved. The bottom line is that every fire fighter should be an expert when it comes to their equipment and donning their SCBA. When lives hang in the balance, every second can count!
